Հյուսիսային Կորեան առաջիկա ամիսներին կարող է ռազմական գործողություններ ձեռնարկել Հարավային Կորեայի դեմ, հայտնում է The New York Times-ը (NYT)՝ հղում անելով ԱՄՆ վարչակազմի պաշտոնյաներին։

Նրանց կարծիքով` Հյուսիսային Կորեայի առաջնորդ Կիմ Չեն Ընի վերջին հայտարարությունները «ավելի ագրեսիվ» էին և դրանց պետք է լուրջ վերաբերվել։

Ամերիկացի պաշտոնյաները պարզաբանել են, որ իրենք «Կորեական թերակղզում լայնամասշտաբ պատերազմի անմիջական վտանգ չեն տեսնում», այնուամենայնիվ, նրանք կարծում են, որ Փհենյանը «կարող է հարվածներ հասցնել այնպես, որ կարողանա միևնույն ժամանակ խուսափել արագ էսկալացիայից»։ Որպես օրինակ՝ նրանք բերել են 2010 թվականին հարավկորեական Եոնպյոնդո կղզու գնդակոծության դեպքը, երբ ԿԺԴՀ-ն և Հարավային Կորեան փոխանակվել են հրետանային կրակով։ Արդյունքում երկու կողմից զոհվեցին մի քանի զինվորականներ և քաղաքացիական անձինք, սակայն հրետակոծությունն ի վերջո դադարեցվեց:

Ըստ NYT-ի՝ ԱՄՆ պաշտոնյաները կարծում են, որ Կիմ Չեն Ընը «հավանաբար քաջալերված է զգում Ռուսաստանի հետ իր գործընկերության ընդլայնմամբ»: Միևնույն ժամանակ, ամերիկյան գերատեսչությունները դեռ չեն արձանագրել կոնկրետ նշաններ, որ Հյուսիսային Կորեան պատրաստվում է ռազմական գործողությունների կամ մեծ պատերազմի։

ԿԺԴՀ ղեկավարն ասել է, որ 2024 թվականին Հյուսիսային Կորեան պետք է արագացնի պատերազմի նախապատրաստությունը՝ ԱՄՆ-ի «աննախադեպ» առճակատման քայլերին հակազդելու համար։ Նա Հարավային Կորեան անվանել էր ամենաթշնամական երկիրը և կոչ արել ամրագրել այս սահմանումը ԿԺԴՀ սահմանադրության մեջ, ինչպես նաև պահանջել էր Սահմանադրությունից հանել Հարավային Կորեայի հետ խաղաղ վերամիավորման մասին հիշատակումը։
