Վրաստանի վարչապետ Իրակլի Կոբախիձեն, այսպես կոչված, «օտարերկրյա գործակալների մասին օրենքի» դեմ շարունակվող բողոքի ակցիաների ֆոնին ասել է, որ երկրում «մայդան» տեղի չի ունենա, փոխանցում է ՌԻԱ «Նովոստի»-ն։

«Ինչ վերաբերում է «մայդան» և Վրաստանում տեղի ունեցող գործընթացների զուգահեռին, ես ուզում եմ բոլորին տեղեկացնել, որ Վրաստանում ոչ ոք «մայդանի» չի հասնի: Հիշեցնեմ, թե ինչ հետևանքներ ունեցավ «մայդանը» Ուկրաինայի համար։ Այն ժամանակ Ուկրաինայի ղեկավարությունը դրսից էր նշանակվել, հետո դա տեղի ունեցավ երկրորդ անգամ, և վերջում նշանակողը պատասխանատվություն չկրեց իրադարձությունների զարգացման համար»,- լրագրողներին ասել է Վրաստանի  վարչապետը։

Նրա խոսքով՝ Վրաստանի իշխանությունների համար ամենակարևորը անկախության մտահոգությունն է։

Մայիսի 14-ին Վրաստանի խորհրդարանը երրորդ և վերջին ընթերցմամբ ընդունել է «Օտարերկրյա ազդեցության թափանցիկության մասին» օրենքը՝ չնայած փողոցային բողոքի ցույցերին։ Մայիսի 18-ին Վրաստանի նախագահ Սալոմե Զուրաբիշվիլին վետո է կիրառել «օտարերկրյա գործակալների մասին օրենքի» վրա՝ այն անվանելով «ռուսական» և «հակասահմանադրական»։

Ավելի վաղ ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղար Էնթոնի Բլինկենը հայտարարել էր, որ Միացյալ Նահանգները հայտարարում է Վրաստանի հետ երկկողմ համագործակցության համապարփակ վերանայման մասին՝ կապված վիճահարույց օրենքի ընդունման հետ։

Վրաստանի իշխող կուսակցությունն ԱՄՆ-ի որոշումը որակել է «զավեշտական և աննախադեպ» և նշել, որ շանտաժի սպառնալիքների քաղաքականությունը չի համապատասխանում ռազմավարական գործընկերության ոգուն։
