Կոստանդիանոս կայսրը Եկեղեցին պաշտոնապես ազատել է ավելի քան 250 տարի տևած հալածանքներից և 313 թվականին Միլանի հրովարտակով քրիստոնեությունը թույլատրելի կրոն հռչակել: Նրա օրոք տեղի է ունեցել Նիկիայի 325 թվականի առաջին Տիեզերական ժողովը, որը դատապարտել է Արիոսին:

Կոստանդիանոսն իր օժանդակությունն է բերել Երուսաղեմի և Բեթղեհեմի տերունական սրբավայրերում փառահեղ տաճարների շինությանը: Կոստանդիանոսը եղել է նաև մեծ զորավար, ով մշտապես հաղթել է պատերազմներում: Ինչպես վկայում է ավանդությունը, Հռոմի ինքնահռչակ կայսր Մաքսենտիոսի դեմ պատերազմելիս, վճռական ճակատամարտից առաջ, Կոստանդիանոսին երևում է խաչի նշանը: Այս նշանով էլ Կոստանդիանոսը դուրս է գալիս մարտի և հաղթում: Վախճանվել է 337 թվականին՝ մահվան մահճում ընդունելով քրիտոնեական մկրտությունը:

Կոստանդիանոսի մայր Հեղինե թագուհին եղավ կայսեր գործակիցը նրա բարեպաշտական գործունեության մեջ: Նրան է վերագրվում Քրիստոսի խաչափայտի գյուտը 327 թվականին: Երուսաղեմում Հուդա անունով մեկը թագուհուն մատնացույց է անում այն վայրը, ուր կարող էին լինել Քրիստոսի և Նրա հետ խաչված երկու ավազակների խաչափայտերը: Ավանդույթի համաձայն՝ բարեպաշտ թագուհին Տիրոջ խաչափայտը գտնելու համար խաչերին հերթով մոտեցնում է մահացած մի երիտասարդի դիակ: Քրիստոսի խաչափայտի զորությունից երիտասարդը կենդանանում է: Խաչի գյուտից հետո Երուսաղեմի Կյուրեղ Հայրապետն այն բարձրացնում է ի տես հավատացյալների:

Հեղինեն Երուսաղեմում և շրջակայքում եկեղեցիներ և կուսանոցներ է կառուցել տալիս։ Մահացել է 330 թվականին՝ քրիստոնյաների սրտերում թողնելով բարի հիշատակ:
