ԱՄՆ կոնգրեսականներն ու սենատորները մասնակցել են Հելսինկյան հանձնաժողովի՝ Հայաստանին վերաբերող լսումներին, որոնց շրջանակում ողջունել են Հայաստանի արտաքին քաղաքական շրջադարձը դեպի Արևմուտք:

Լսումները նպատակ են ունեցել ուրվագծել ուղիներ, որոնցով Միացյալ Նահանգները և Կոնգրեսը կարող են աջակցել Հայաստանին՝ շարունակելու իր ժողովրդավարական ուղին, ապահովելու ինքնիշխանությունը, վերջնականապես հաստատելու խաղաղություն և կարգավորելու հարաբերություններն Ադրբեջանի և Թուրքիայի հետ, ինչպես նաև զսպելու Ռուսաստանի՝ տարածաշրջանում գերիշխելու ջանքերը:

«Հայաստանը կանգնած է կրիտիկական խաչմերուկում: Միացյալ Նահանգները կարող է բացառիկ և որոշիչ դերակատարում ունենալ Հայաստանի՝ խաղաղ, ժողովրդավար, կայուն, ապակայունացնող տարրերից զերծ ապագային աջակցելու հարցում», - ասել է Հելսինկյան հանձնաժողովի նախագահ Ջո Ուիլսոնը:

Նա ընդգծել է, որ այսօր Հայաստանը բախվում է նոր մարտահրավերների, սակայն երկրի ներուժը հնարավոր է կյանքի կոչել միայն Արևմուտքի հետ իրական ինտեգրման միջոցով՝ խորացնելով կապերը Եվրոպայի, ԱՄՆ-ի, նրանց դաշնակիցների հետ:

«Հայաստանը խիզախ քայլեր է ձեռնարկել` պաշտպանելու անկախությունը և իրեն հեռվացնելու ռազմական հանգացործ Պուտինի ազդեցությունից: Այս որոշումները հեշտ չեն տրվել, հատկապես տարածաշրջանում, որտեղ Պուտինի ազդեցությունն ամենուր է: Մոսկվան անընդհատ ցույց է տվել, որ նախընտրում է Հայաստանն ու նրա հարևաններին տեսնել հակամարտության մեջ: Այս ռազմավարությունը նախատեսված է ՌԴ-ի գերիշխանությունը պահպանելու համար», - շարունակել է Ուիլսոնը:

Ըստ նրա՝ ՌԴ-ն ցանկանում է վերստեղծել ԽՍՀՄ-ը, սակայն հայ ժողովուրդն այլ բան է ցանկանում:

«Նրանք ցանկանում են խաղաղություն, ժողովրդավարություն, դրսից միջամտությունից զերծ ապագա... այստեղ ԱՄՆ-ն պետք է որոշիչ դերակատարում ունենա: Մենք պետք է այնտեղ լինենք՝ աջակցելու Հայաստանին ժողովրդավարության կառուցման հարցում, շտկելու տնտեսական և քաղաքական իրավիճակը», - ասել է Հելսինկյան հանձնաժողովի նախագահը:

Այս լսումներին նախորդել էր Հելսինկյան հանձնաժողովի անդամ օրենսդիրների հուլիսին կայացած ճանաչողական այցը Հայաստան, որի ընթացքում նրանք արձանագրել են Հայաստանի անկայուն ռազմավարական իրավիճակը, բայց միևնույն ժամանակ նրա դիմացկունությունը, տարածաշրջանում ժողովրդավարության օրինակը ծառայելը և հասարակական-քաղաքական կոնսենսուսը՝ հօգուտ եվրոպական ապագայի:
