Ըստ Պուտինի՝ Ռուսաստանը երեք անգամ համաձայնել է գործարք կնքել Ուկրաինայի հետ, սակայն Ուկրաինան միշտ խախտել է պայմանավորվածությունները։

Ռուսաստանի նախագահը հայտնել է նաև, որ Հունգարիայի վարչապետ Վիկտոր Օրբանն առաջարկել է Սուրբ Ծննդյան զինադադար «մեկ-երկու օրով»։ Պուտինը նրան առաջարկել է նախ հստակեցնել Ուկրաինայի դիրքորոշումը: Իսկ Կիևը մերժել է և՛ զինադադարի, և՛ գերիների փոխանակման առաջարկը։ Պուտինը հավելել է, որ զինադադարի պահպանման երաշխիքների ապահովման հարցը բարդ է, սակայն լուծումներ «հնարավոր է գտնել»։
