ՄԱԿ-ը մտահոգված է Եթովպիայում խաղաղ բնակիչների սպանությամբ եւ էթնիկական լարվածության` ցեղասպանությանը վերափոխմամբ: Այս մասին ասվում է Ցեղասպանության կանխարգելման համաշխարհային կազմակերպության հատուկ խորհրդական Փրամիլա Փաթենի եւ «Պաշտպանության համար պատասխանատվություն» հայեցակարգի հատուկ խորհրդական Կարեն Սմիթի համատեղ հայտարարության մեջ, որը հրապարակվել է ուրբաթ օրը, փոխանցում է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:

Նրանք «խորը մտահոգություն են հայտնել Եթովպիայում ազգամիջյան լարվածության աճի մասին հաղորդագրությունների եւ Տիգրայի շրջանում վերջերս տեղի ունեցած ռազմական բախումների կապակցությամբ, որոնք, ինչպես պնդում են, բազմաթիվ խաղաղ բնակիչների սպանության են հանգեցրել»:
Հայտարարության մեջ շեշտվում է, որ «էթնիկ դրդապատճառներով հարձակումները վտանգավոր հետագիծ են ներկայացնում, որը մեծացնում է ցեղասպանության, ռազմական հանցագործությունների, էթնիկ զտումների եւ մարդկության դեմ հանցագործությունների ռիսկերը, որոնք սովորաբար հատկապես ծանր են համարվում»:

Մասնավորապես, Փաթենն ու Սմիթը հաղորդագրություններ են ստացել «էթնիկ եւ կրոնական դրդապատճառներով ատելության հրահրման, բռնությանը դրդման եւ մարդու իրավունքների լուրջ խախտումների մասին, այդ թվում` երկրի տարբեր մասերում կամայական ձերբակալությունների, սպանությունների, տեղահանման եւ մասնավոր սեփականության ոչնչացման դեպքերի մասին»:
